The .50AE Desert Eagle is the equivalent of a Hummer H2. The Hummer wants you to think it is like the Humvee with its utilitarian looks, but is actually an overpriced Chevy pickup underneath. It comes in a variety of colors and is usually owned by people who want to make a statement - even though it's mostly used for lugging around kids and groceries.

Taking a .50AE into a firefight is about as practical as taking a Hummer H2 into warfare.

Thats why its all about the H&K .40 compact usp (I think that is the correct name). I went to Vegas and in this plae my father, brother and I visited, we rented the H&K, a 9mm Beretta, and a Thompson SMG. I never got to shoot the Thompson but the H&K put every other gun I've fired to shame.

Good taste. I have an HK USP Compact .45. It's a wonderful gun. Short trigger reset. Feels good to shoot. Solidly built. Wonderful ergonomics - great design. Feeds reliably. I can't praise the HK enough - go ahead and get one.

I also have a Glock 23 .40 which has always worked for me - I don't need a bigger frame to shoot .40. It has a 13 rd capacity and can use the 15 rd Glock 22 magazines, too.

I saw that place in Vegas, but I was on my honeymoon and my wife didn't think shooting automatic weaponry would be very romantic. Can't say that I blame her.

In the shooting community the .50AE DE is regarded as more of a poser gun than anything else. It was designed as a novelty - not for combat. It is way too impractical for use in the field. The DE a gas-operated mechanism that requires slow burning ball powders that leave a ton of residue so it needs to be cleaned every 50 rounds or so (I'm told). It's got all the ergonomics of a cinder block and the balance is awful - not to mention the weight and bulk.

If your DE is in a case and you show it to a shooter you'll get "oohs" and "ahhs" of curiosity.

If your DE is holstered on your body and you show it to a shooter you'll get pity (not ridicule ... we're actually supportive, not mean).

Hollywood picked up on this pistol because it looks big and mean - but, in real life, only a complete wanker would carry one into a fight.

quoted for truth...the gun dealer my dad works with at the moment has a D-Eagle in the safe right now...granted, it is rather impressive looking...other than that, it's crap...i have fairly large hands and the thing still feels huge, clumsy and awkward...

i agree with you on the HK stuff too...HK makes amazing guns...best pistol i've ever shot, though, is my dad's SiGARMS P229 Sporter in .357 SiG...smooth as glass, a comp'ed barrel and a deceptively powerful round...

It was funny when we were at that gun store in vegas. My brother said to the guy that he wanted to shoot the Desert Eagle and the only reply he received was "No you don't." So my bro opted for the Beretta, it was too light and had too much jump for my taste.

I still like the H&K mp5 the one I shot was semi-auto if it was 3 round burst it would have been perfect. very good at close range and not bad at medium range. however my 30-06 bolt action springfield is very nice at long range (if you don't mind muzzle drop)

Man all this gun talk is kinda scary. I love action movies as much as any other guy but talking about handguns like you're actually going to use them is, well, a bit alien to me.

If you ever met regular shooters you'd be surprised to discover how wrong the stereotypes are. If one were to believe in the media and movies you'd think shooters were para-military survivalist-types with Appalachian accents or poorly educated inner-city sociopaths who hate the world. The regular community of shooters are articulate, friendly and helpful people.

In college I used to be a "Berkeley liberal" and assumed that gun-owners were naturally dangerous people. Since then I grew up and had friends who introduced me to the sport.

There is a whole body of myths about guns and gun-owners that the media supports. I wish the general well-intentioned public was more aware of this.

If you lived in my town I'd be happy to take you to the shooting range and introduce you to the sport and to some of my buddies. We're not a "gung-ho" lot. We are educated, funny, good-natured, good parents and responsible people.

When we talk about the practicality of particular weapons it's not to imply that we're preparing for combat - it's just a part of learning the equipment's history and science. I have to mention the differences between movie guns and real guns only because Hollywood also teaches us that guns are "toys" that can promote machismo. I take every opportunity to debunk myths because guns are not "toys" they're to be treated with responsibility and respect. They are not instruments of vengance or emotion - they are purely tools.

Gun ownership doesn't make you strong or macho. Like owning a sports-car it just means you have to be responsible and educated or you'll be dangerous.

lmao i just remembered when i was back in the states and frequented shooting ranges, i got to try out my uncles wallet sized pea shooter, can't remember the exact name or caliber but i think it was .8mm

that little sucker had some mean ass kick to it though

no it was one of those actual wallet sized guns that shoot less than .10mm rounds, with a clip of like 6

"Clips" are what girl's wear in their hair. It's called a magazine.

Xi is right - the Desert variation isn't much of a combat pistol - 7 rounds unless .357, and a gas system is only suitable for rifles. However, the Baby Eagle is far more suited for combat, coming in .40 S&W (The wonder cartrage), .45 and for you cheapos, 9x19.

As for Dood - you're close. The guns both have the same name. That weapon is a tottaly different bird, but it IS made by the same company and still has a close name (The Tompson your pappy used was an M1A variant - the .45 combat variant). I've NEVER heard of a 9x19 Thompson, however.

.10mm? The lowist calibur recorded was a 3.5mm cartrage that had less power than an airgun, and even an airgun uses 4.5mm .177 calibur BBs/Pellets. Maybe you mean something like a .32 or .38? Pocket pistols normaly vary from .22 SR, .22 LR, .32, .38 and 9x19 - the WEAK, small rounds. If it was a pocket pistol of 7 rounds, it was probably something around one of the Walther pocket pistol series or possibly S&W.

I have a 9mm mauser vintage WWII sitting at home it has an open telescopic site (you squeeze two tabs in and pull back it raises based on how far back it is pulled to let you aim at a distance) with bayonett attatched

Just seen the first video, and he must have stuck the bits of that on with blu-tack or something.

I can just imagine the anount of pain that could cause me if that was ME on the recieving end

EDIT: the fourth video (#s 2 and 3 are encoded or unavailable) is the idiot's guide of NOT using a old sniper rifle properly. but that is a nasty jolt back... :s I guess he's very new to Rifles and the like

no matter which one i went to there was always a picture of bin laden as a target in the pistol range

It's the rifle itself - if you look back in the thread, it was identified as a Holland & Holland .700 Nitro Express. A .700 has more grain and joules than a .50 BMG o.o
